1 Halo

Worldnet Daily’s columnist, Vox Day (blogger, “Christian Libertarian”, football lover and member of SFWA, Mensa and IGDA), has published a new book entitled, “The Irrational Atheist - Dissecting the Unholy Trinity of Dawkins, Harris and Hitchens,” and boy is it a doosy! WND goes so far as to say that this book “trounces God-deniers,” and provides a review on their website from “atheist” critic Brent Rasmussen with the following quotes:

“I am not going to go into a point by point review of the various arguments that Day addressed in ‘The Irrational Atheist.’ Suffice it to say that by the end of the chapters dealing with the individual [atheist] authors, I was happy that it was over. It was a thorough, detailed, dispassionate (with a little snarky levity thrown into the footnotes for flavor), and completely disheartening take-down of some of the best arguments that the godless have put into print – on their own terms, without using the Bible (in the first part of the book, that is), or any other sacred text to do it with. Amazing. And depressing. It is not my place to defend their books. I truly hope that they do find time to defend and clarify their books, specifically to the counter-arguments and claims made by Vox Day in TIA, though, because they really need to. Trust me, it wasn’t pretty.”

“My advice is to read this book – and then do your damnedest to find something in it that you can argue against.”

Well Brent, never fear, someone with a better critical eye than your own has done that very thing, and before the book was even published! Many of Day’s foundations for his book came from an essay of the same name, found here. This essay will give you a good idea of what Day is trying to get at within the bloated 320 pages he has published through BenBella Books (specializing in science fiction and pop culture).

The blog, “Socrates’ elegy” skillfully refutes Day’s reasoning, while providing valid incites into the mindset of the rational atheist. Here is just one example, because you should really click on the blog link and check out all of what it has to say:

Mr. Day continues,

Whereas Christians and the faithful of other religions have good reason for attempting to live by
the Golden Rule – they are commanded to do so – the atheist does not.

This is an unsupported assumption. The atheist has at least one good ethical
motivation: self-interest in the preservation of civilization. Acting
on this an atheist has at his disposal our common humanity: the body of
knowledge we draw upon to establish codes of conduct, points of order,
and define the rights and responsibilities we as citizens must observe
in order to maintain civilization. While religion attempts to encompass
some of this, albeit in a haphazard, dangerously inconsistent manner;
the concept of common humanity transcends religious morality in that it
is not exclusionary. Also, the atheist is never tempted to “play God”
by claiming to speak for him.

After all of this, I am going to give Vox Day 1 halo, because he needs to stick with what his horrible haircut is telling him and keep writing science fiction. Obviously, pseudo-philosophical, theistic essay is not his strong point.

Internet Group Anonymous Declares “War on Scientology”

“Anonymous” continues the fight against the Church of Scientology and their Religious Technology Center.

CLEARWATER, Florida (January 24, 2008) - Anonymous announced their intention to combat the activities of the Church of Scientology on Monday, January 21, 2008. A spokesperson said that the group’s goals include bringing to an end the financial exploitation of Church members and protecting free speech, a right which they claim was consistently violated by the Church of Scientology in persecution of their opponents.

This announcement came as a response to attempts by the Church to keep secret an internal video meant to be viewed only by Scientologists, featuring actor Tom Cruise. Despite their efforts, the movie was leaked and rapidly spread across the Internet. The video caused much controversy, and members of Anonymous posted a message to several of their websites proclaiming war against Scientology. Soon after, Anonymous struck at the church; they blocked access to its website, made prank calls, organized protests, distributed anti-Church pamphlets and information, and extracted secret files from the Church of Scientology and its parent company, the Religious Technology Center.

Anonymous’ members cited several reasons for their actions against the Church of Scientology: many have stressed the alleged human rights violations under the auspices of the Church.[1] Others accused the Church of fraud due to its costly ceremonies and “products.” Most members, however, were concerned with the threat to free speech that the Church posed. This was most evident in the recent attacks on websites such as Digg and YouTube, where the Church filtered anti-Scientology comments and replaced their content with the text “[This comment is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Church of Scientology International].”

“The so-called Church of Scientology actively misused copyright and trademark law in pursuit of its own agenda,” one Anonymous commented. “They attempted not only to subvert free speech, but to recklessly pervert justice to silence those who spoke out against them.”

The Church of Scientology’s legal struggle with its online detractors began in 1994 with the Usenet group “alt.religion.scientology“, a community which spoke out against the Church. Legal representatives from the Church confronted them specifically over the use of Scientology in their name, citing trademark infringement and misrepresentation. This led to numerous lawsuits,[2] and the group was shut down.[3] The Church of Scientology later found itself in several further conflicts on the Internet,[4] including some with popular websites such as Google and Slashdot,[5] as well as an alleged “war” with users of the website YTMND.com.[6]

The members of Anonymous do not plan to end their attacks on the Church of Scientology. Instead, they will continue until the Church of Scientology reacts, at which point they will change strategy. Their main goal is to render the church powerless, and so the war could be one of attrition. Anonymous has acquired large amounts of Scientology trade secrets, along with dozens of lectures, documents, books and recordings. As of January 24th at approximately 12:00 PM EST, the size of these files being distributed is reaching nearly one gigabyte. More are expected to become available as time goes on. Below you will find a link to a YouTube video with almost 500,000 views, Anonymous’ message to Scientology. Also available is a RapidShare link containing a .rar of HTML files that sample some of the documents that have been released by Anonymous. In this one file alone, there are over 538,000 pages. Topics include: Child Dianetics, a Technical Dictionary, The OT Levels, Axioms of Scientology and other various materials.

About Scientology:

Science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard founded the Church in 1953. In the 55 years since its inception, the Church has faced allegations of being a commercial enterprise that harasses its critics, exploits its members, and neglects adults in its care. Scientology has also faced criticism over the cost required to progress through its “auditing” system, with the total bill for completing the course estimated at $365,000 - $380,000.[7]

About Anonymous:

Anonymous is a collective composed of many Internet users, spanning dozens of countries, combined under one name. Originally stemming from various internet image-boards, Anonymous gained notoriety through various internet-based operations. Anonymous has built up formidable influence on the internet which has over the years manifested itself in tangible, real-world influence. They have launched offensives against a wide variety of targets, including the social website Habbo Hotel and various White Supremacy entities. Anonymous played a major role in the capture of Canadian pedophile Chris Forcand.

UPDATE: Skynews - Skynews are incorrect. Contrary to media reports, Anonymous is not demanding monetary compensation to cease attacks on the church.

Anonymous March Forward With The Scientology Wars!

reposted from: http://z15.invisionfree.com/Operation__CoSplay/index.php?showtopic=478

1/18/08 and 1/21/08 were a HUGE success anon

Anon needs to regroup and re-attack at a designated, publicized time.

Time for the 3rd wave is going to be

1/24/08 6 PM EST
The date is perfect because it is the anniversary of L. Ron Hubbards death.

Your main job now, Anon, is to ADVERTISE THIS DATE EVERYWHERE,
do it on the EBAUMSWORLDs, forums, ircs… anywhere you can.

OBJECTIVES FOR 3rd WAVE:

1. Bringing the sites down

NOTE: The targets and their order might change before the date, so keep checking this topic for updates
The primary target is again Scientology.org.

Secondary
target is rtc.org, to be attacked when Scientology.org is confirmed
down in all worldwide locations for at least 10 minutes. During the
last raid, Scientology.org (SCIORG) would not stay down because we
switched targets to rtc.org too quickly.

Finally, www.scientologyhandbook.org is the third target, to be attacked when RTC.org is down.
Do not switch targets before you are advised to do so by IRC or website operators/admins, and/or raidchan radio

A. Communication: Main communication for bringing the sites down happens on IRC, and also on radichan radio.
1. Irc.nintelligent.net #cosplay is a coordination chat
2. irc.nintelligent.net #status is not a chat, it is for status updates
on which sites are currently up or down. It is important to keep this
up to date and monitor it.
3. irc.711chan.org (see mirrors below in
INFO section) #xenu is a chat but is also used for moderator
announcements, and may be muted at important times.
4. irc.711chan.org #xenuchat is another coordination chat
5. irc.711chan.org #press will be the main room for coordinating press
activities. Share TV station phone numbers and other press related
contacts. Third wave will focus heavily on alerting the press about the
raid.
6. Riadchan Radio: http://www.raidchan.org/radio/listen.pls
Plays raid music and constantly updates anon on the status of the raid,
and is also used for giving quick instructions to anon. Fuckin pay
attention this time, even if it’s choppy.

2. Alerting the media

We
have a digg article, we have a press release, we have a declaration of
war in youtube… use all of these and any other material when
contacting your local media. Do not use the name of this forum or any
of the EBAUMSWORLDs, just say that Church of Scientology is attacked by
a internet group calling themselves “Anonymous”. This is very important
if you want this raid to mean anything, even a little press can double
our numbers instantly.

THIS MUST BE DONE ONLY WHEN SCIORG IS DOWN:
Call
your local news stations and speak to a reporter or a secretary, they
will ask 1000 questions and you have to give up as many details as you
can without breaking the rules. Have them check that SCIORG is down,
tell them about the black faxes and scientology prank calls (also how
impossible it is to get through to the Dianetics hotline), give them
links to the press release or the declaration youtube video. Trade
press contact information in irc.711chan.org #press and repeat the
process until we see this on the news. Tell them it started on 1/18/08
and shows no signs of stopping, that it’s only getting larger.

Again, coordinate press activities in #press.

3. Phones and faxes
Keep
attacking their phones and faxes, this is the real lulzy part of this
raid… do it for Great Justice or just for the lulz and remember that
you are anonymous. Scientology phone numbers should be posted on this
forum, and any major numbers or extensions of higher ups should be
posted in one of the chats ASAP. Main target here is the dianetics
hotline, 1-800-367-8788. It needs to be IMPOSSIBLE to call, which means
keep them on the line at all costs. Yell at them, be nice to them, ask
them weird shit, whatever.

4. IRL raids
NYC raid was epic,
we need more videos like that to youtube. Whether you do this on
thursday or any other weekday, make sure to document it for teh lulz.

/OBJECTIVES

INFO:
This
board is right now the base of operations for opCosPlay. Should this
board go down, raiders are instructed to report to /i/ to get
instructions to the new base. Also, consult the raid wiki at http://www.partyvan.info/index.php/Project_Chanology
if you lack info, links, or suck at this. Don’t waste anon’s time in
the chats trying to catch up, everything you could ever want and more
is on this forum and in the other locations on that wiki.

irc.nintelligent.net
#cosplay

Must remain active.

irc.711chan.org MIRRORS: irc.partyvan.org / irc.expolitercode.net / irc.g00ns.net
#xenu

Must also remain active.

POST THIS EVERYWHERE, ALL ANON SHOULD BE INFORMED.
